The CEO’s Dilemma – How to drive efficient innovation in the organization

Presented by:

Joe Barkai

Practice Director, Product Lifecycle Strategies
IDC Manufacturing Insights

Relentless innovation is often proposed as the appropriate response to many of the current challenges and ills, from accelerating the economic recovery to counterbalancing the losses to outsourcing and low-cost manufacturing countries.

Product companies make significant investments in new product development and introduction (NPD).  While companies like GE, P&G, 3M and others excel in creating new successful products, many product companies struggle to drive and manage efficient innovation; in fact, many of them can be characterized as reckless innovators.  This notion is particularly important to smaller companies that must meet stringent time to market and quality requirements on shoestring budgets.

Joe Barkai from IDC will discuss the current technology, operational and macro-economic challenges facing product companies, and how these impede the capacity of organizations to make effective decisions.  He will discuss a framework for connecting organizational strategy to execution, and the key behaviors of manufacturing companies that excel in NPDI, In particular, he will discuss the benefits of lean innovation, balancing cutting edge innovation with day to day operations.
