Mass High Tech

Following NEIBC’s successful Growth Series kick-off event in June, we held our second event of the series, which focused on “Pivoting”.
Noam Wasserman, Professor at Harvard Business School and the author of “The Founder’s Dilemmas”, moderated a panel of three leaders that have decided to pivot their company: Gil Zimmerman, co-Founder & CEO of CloudLock; Oren Elias, co-founder & EVP Strategy of Correlsense and Israel Ganot, co-Founder & CEO of Gazelle.

Networking Reception @ ILSI Biomed, 4:30-6:30pm (sponsored by Mintz Levin and the Massachusetts Life Science Center). NEIBC held a well attended reception for the local life sciences business community which focused on “Israel-US Financing for Israeli Life Science Companies”. Speakers included Dr. Uri Geiger, Managing Partner, Accelmed; Dr. Nissim Darvish, Senior Managing Director, OrbiMed Israel and Dr. Giora Yaron, Co-Chairman of the Board, Itamar Medical.

March 26, Herzlia & March 29, Boston

MassChallenge and and NEIBC held two well attended events in Israel and Boston. The high energy gatherings marked the start of an exciting new partnership between NEIBC and MassChallenge with the joint target of tapping into Israeli entrepreneurial talent in New England and Israel and exploring the global expansion of MassChallenge through a first pilot model in Israel. Yossi Vardi was keynote speaker at both events. NEIBC is proud to be part of this initiative and will continue to promote economic development through local and international outreach and ongoing eco-system creation.  We encourage any and all early-stage entrepreneurs to apply for MassChallenge before the dealine on April 11th at 12 noon.

February 29 – “Accelerating Growth Through Strategic Partnerships”

NEIBC held an informative seminar on the BIRD Foundation at the Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment. The seminar included a presentation by BIRD-F’s East Coast rep, Andrea Yonah, who gave an overview of BIRD-F, the submission process and examples of successful projects, as well as a BIRD-F case study presented by Miki Feldman-Simon of Ginger Software (Israel) and Donna Ritchie of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (MA)The seminar was attended by a diverse group of companies that could be interested in partnering through BIRD F. The seminar was held in advance of two fast approaching submission deadlines for Executive Summaries, i.e. the general technology fund on March 14, 2012 and a fund for alternative and renewable energy technologies on May 3, 2012.

Feb 23-24, 2012, RI – Nili Shalev, Israel’s Economic Minister to North America at the Economic Mission in New York,  visited Rhode Island last week for the first time since taking up her position in August 2011.  The visit was organized by Avi Nevel , Executive Board Member of the NEIBC in collaboration RIEDC, Providence Chamber of Commerce, RI CIE and Chafee Center. During her visit Nili met Governor Chafee and members of his administration, participated in two business events and met a number of  Rhode Island companies to discuss trade collaboration with Israeli companies, academic and government institutions.

• February 2012 – Kick off of “early bird” networking breakfast series – “The Israeli High-Tech VC Eco-System: Behind the Scenes View of 2011, Latest Transactions and Current Market Trends” with visiting industry expert, Dr Ayal Shenhav
• November 2011 – Data Storage & Security Summit – one-day summit presenting some of Israel’s highly promising data storage and security companies that are looking to expand collaborations with local partners.
• October 2011 – Exclusive meeting with Israeli Ministry of Defense Procurement officials
• May 2011 – Networking Reception at ILSI – Biomed, Israel
• March 2011 – Governor Deval Patrick Trade Mission to Israel – high profile 10-day visit to Israel. The Governor was joined bystate government and private industry officials from Massachusetts, including New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Partners HealthCare CEO Gary Gottlieb.
• October 2010 – Life Science Summit – a two-day Summit featuring 15 of the most promising Israeli life sciences companies spanning pharmaceutical, biotech, medical devices and drug delivery. In addition to local participants, the Summit hosted delegation from Israel, including a Nobel Laureate, CEOs from 15 of the most promising Israeli pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies, VCs, and others.
• May 2010 – Homeland Security Event -  A delegation of 12 Israeli Homeland Security companies which showcased their cutting edge  products and  technologies met with Massport, local government agencies and local integrators. The panel  included Admiral George Naccara, TSA Federal Security Director, Ron Rousso – Former head of security division El-Al Israel airlines, Rafi Ron, CEO New  age security solutions and John Howel – Partner, Sullivan – Worcester, moderatored by Dennis Treece, Security Director, Massport.  Mary Elizabeth Heffernan, secretary of public  Safety and Security for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts gave the keynote speach at the reception.

• December 2009 – The CEO’s Dilemma – how to drive efficient innovation in the organization presentation by Joe Barkai, Practice Director, Product Lifecycle Strategies
  IDC Manufacturing Insights, followed by a panel featuring Izhar Armony, Partner at Charles River Ventures, Izhak Hevrony VP Corporate Development and M&A of Elbit Systems U.S, Gadi Tamari, Board Director of Savant Solutions, and Shlomi Dinoor, VP of Emerging Technologies at Cyber-Ark Software.
• December 2009 - Investment Opportunities in Israeli Mobile & Communication Startups - Israeli companies roadshow with the Israel Mobile Association
• October 2009 – New England – Israel Life Sciences Summit -  13 Israeli Life Sciences companies, beyond proof of concept, presented and met with potential strategic partners and investors. Israel Makov, former chair of Teva and current chair of Given Imaging and Netafim amazed the audience with a brilliant presentation. The day panels included partnering and in-licensing presentations led by Eli Lily, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Alnylam. Executives from pharma companies and VCs had an opportunity for 1:1 meetings.
