Over the years, we hosted numerous well attended meetings that featured
prestigious speakers.

  • May ‘ 10 – Homeland Security Event -  A delegation of 12 Israeli Homeland Security companies which showcased their cutting edge  products and  technologies met with Massport, local government agencies and local integrators. The panel  included Admiral George Naccara, TSA Federal Security Director, Ron Rousso – Former head of security division El-Al Israel airlines, Rafi Ron, CEO New  age security solutions and John Howel – Partner, Sullivan – Worcester, moderatored by Dennis Treece, Security Director, Massport.  Mary Elizabeth Heffernan, secretary of public  Safety and Security for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts gave the keynote speach at the reception.

  • October ’09 – New England – Israel Life Sciences Summit -  13 Israeli Life Sciences companies, beyond proof of concept, presented and met with potential strategic partners and investors. Israel Makov, former chair of Teva and current chair of Given Imaging and Netafim amazed the audience with a brilliant presentation. The day panels included partnering and in-licensing presentations led by Eli Lily, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Alnylam. Executives from pharma companies and VCs had an opportunity for 1:1 meetings.

Brain Research in Israel Today: Reality and Vision – Jan 28 5:00PM

Prof. Hochstein will discuss the current state of brain research in Israel.

He will describe some of the basic research being conducted, including his own studies of visual perception,

and talk about a few recent breakthroughs that have or could lead to commercial products.

Professor Shaul Hochstein was elected Director of NIPI in the summer of 2002. He chairs the Hebrew University’s Program in Brain & Behavior, and is also chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Inter-disciplinary Center for Neural Computation. Born in New York, he has worked at Rockefeller University and M.I.T. His research concerns the visual system, memory and learning – in particular, neural-network encoding of perceptual stimulus features and sequence order, cortical mechanisms of perceptual learning, categorization, and the rapid visual encoding of a high-level representation of the perceptual world.

Relentless innovation is often proposed as the appropriate response to many of the current challenges and ills, from accelerating the economic recovery to counterbalancing the losses to outsourcing and low-cost manufacturing countries.

Product companies make significant investments in new product development and introduction (NPD).  While companies like GE, P&G, 3M and others excel in creating new successful products, many product companies struggle to drive and manage efficient innovation; in fact, many of them can be characterized as reckless innovators.  This notion is particularly important to smaller companies that must meet stringent time to market and quality requirements on shoestring budgets.

Joe Barkai from IDC will discuss the current technology, operational and macro-economic challenges facing product companies, and how these impede the capacity of organizations to make effective decisions.  He will discuss a framework for connecting organizational strategy to execution, and the key behaviors of manufacturing companies that excel in NPDI, In particular, he will discuss the benefits of lean innovation, balancing cutting edge innovation with day to day operations.

DR. BRUCE MAGID

Bruce R. Magid, Ph.D., is the dean of Brandeis International Business School (IBS). Magid holds the Martin and Ahuva Gross Chair in Financial Markets and Institutions. He serves as Treasurer and member of the Board of the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment and is also Co-Chair of the NASULGC Sloan National Commission on Online Learning. Dr. Magid brings both academic leadership and professional practice to IBS. He provided leadership as a managing director and senior vice president at Bank of America, where he served for twenty-one years. Over his career, Magid has been senior advisor to the Minister of Planning of the Republic of Venezuela, developed and taught executive education courses, and he has been a recipient of a U.S. Department of Education grant.

YAIR SHIRAN

Under the leadership of Yair Shiran, the Economic Minister to North America, the Economic Mission of Israel strives to promote trade, as well as economic, technological and investment cooperation between Israel and the United States. Serving in key positions both in Israel and abroad, Mr. Shiran has extensive experience in international trade and global economic affairs. Before assuming the post in New York Mr. Shiran served as the Chief Trade Negotiator and Israel’s representative to the World Trade Organization in Geneva. Mr. Shiran retired from the Israeli Defense Forces with the rank of Captain, having served as a Company Commander in the Israeli Paratroopers and in the IDF officers’ training academy.

CLIFFORD GOLDSTEIN

Clifford A. Goldstein, Chairman of the Board, AMIDEX Funds, Inc. A summa cum laude graduate of Temple University and Temple University Law School, Mr. Goldstein practiced Commercial Law at America’s oldest law firm until 1991 when he founded his own firm, Weber Goldstein Greenberg and Gallagher. Mr. Goldstein is a frequent guest on CNBC, CBS Marketwatch, Fox News and CNN, commenting on the Israeli economy and Israeli stocks. Mr. Goldstein is an Executive Consultant to the Chartwell Law Offices, LLP, in Valley Forge, PA, and serves on the Executive Committee of Camp Ramah in the Poconos and the America-Israel Chamber of Commerce.
